BRENTWOOD -The Assessment process has begun by the Los Angeles Sheriff's Department Homeless Outreach Services (HOST) team to clear the encampment from the San Vicente sidewalk.
LASD is working in tight coordination with housing providers, the Department of Mental Health and the VA to offer services and housing to all residents of the encampment.
HOST leader Lt. Geoffrey Deedrick will attend the September BCC meeting to report to the full community, according to BCC.
The BCC said that Some Veterans on the sidewalk are inclined to refuse permanent Veteran supportive housing placements that are not within a short vicinity of the West LA VA. Given the first 120 units of the VA Master Plan will not open until June of 2022, a request has been made by the street outreach team of social workers for connection to landlords in the West LA area who may be interested in renting to a homeless Vet using a HUD VASH voucher, which is a guaranteed rent payment of $1808 per month, plus full time social work care for the Veteran and a financial bonus to the landlord upon move in.
